I am pretty sure you got you passport, your visa, booked your hotels, talked to your bank if they work abroad or not, and have worked with all the official things you require to do before travelling. Apart from those, here are few things you need to consider on making your trip successful.
Until now, I have visited four countries, which is a pretty less number but these trips have taught me so many things, and I really wish to share what I've learnt with you.
Travelling is fun. Travelling is wonderful. But first of all, what you should consider is the reason you are visiting that country. Are you there just to go to theme parks and enjoy the food? (OK this was me when I went to Malaysia lol) or are you there to explore,or are you there to learn the cultures, tradition, or photograph? You got to know your main goals.
Then you plan your trip that way. I know this sounds obvious but you should be really careful on planning what to do ahead. For example, if you are visiting a country to research about their culture, tradition, values etc, you don't want to go there without a guide who'd explain things to you, or you don't want to go to the city areas, you should go to the most ancient or historic cities.
So, without any ado, let's get to the TEN things you should consider before travelling:
1) Research!
"Sure I will research" this is what most of us say and to be honest, the only thing that most of us will research about is our hotels, we'll take a glimpse of the places that we're visiting, or some other interesting facts because "we are going to witness it why should we research?". Not only you should be more specific about the places you are visiting but you should also research about the language, the appropriate behaviours you should make to people you communicate.
(For example: you don't smile and greet strangers in most of the countries, so if you are in one of those countries you better not do that )
2) Language
Make sure you at least learn some of the words, it will make things easier. Not everyone speaks English. And also if you try talking to them in their language, it will make the conversation 10 times worth it. Trust me.
3) Communication and culture
Make sure you understand the people and their way of communicating. Because sometimes, what you think is rude would be practised honourably in their culture, and you might feel down because you thought it was mean. This makes things weirder.
(Like in US, if someone gives you a present you open it right away and compliment it and thank them, but the same thing would be so rude if you'd do in Nepal or some other countries, so be careful!)
4) Bring a Charger adapter
\Unless you want to buy new electronics, which I bet you wouldn't want to.
5) Pack some snacks.
Make sure you carry some of your favourite candies or chips that you are sure you won't get in the country you are travelling to. This may help you if you're homesick. But make sure you don't pack homemade unsealed food, most of the airports don't allow it.
6) Carry some local cash.
While travelling, you will find out that all the places won't accept cards, you would need to have some money in your pocket too. And you can also carry some cash from your country to give to people you meet, I am sure they'll like to have it as a souvenir.
7) Treat the people with respect.
If you go to certain countries and you don't like the way people do things there, don't argue with them. Make them feel like they are doing the right thing and praise their way of practising events even if you hate it. Remember when you're in a foreign nation you are not only on your own, you are taking the prestige of your nation too. So if you do something bad the people of that nation will turn it into a stereotype and dislike the country. So, just praise their culture norms and traditions. :)
8) Enjoy!
